Animating!

Attempting to do a little keyframe animation at work while I’m not busy… This is what I have after 2 days (obviously not fully productive days, haha…)

Fancy Pants

Last Saturday was a friend’s wedding.  A group of us, after the afternoon reception, booked a couple of hotel rooms, so I took this opportunity, while everyone was still dressed up, to take some photos.  I didn’t play around too much with lighting at all.  I used one flash that was bounced off the wall/ceiling to the right of the camera.  Overall, i was quite happy with the resulting images.

Lack of Updates

Unfortunately for the past month I’ve been pretty swamped at work so I haven’t had much time to do anything creative.  I did remember that I did a small Mario-based painting sometime last year.  Nothing fancy, but definitely geeky!

Foo Stitch!

I finally finished my Foo Fighters cross stitch!  Tomorrow night is their show and  I’m really hoping to find them before the show…  But I’m afraid that my chances are slim.

The Wilhelm Scream

At work, someone puts on a monthly art challenge. It’s usually a single topic and you get a month to create any form of art based on that topic. I haven’t entered any of them in the past, but Tuesday was a rather unproductive day as the network had some issues. So I took about half an hour at the end of the day and came up with a little animated gif for the topic of the “Wilhelm Scream.” I think I should’ve added an extra pose at the beginning as he’s entering the frame, and straightened out the final pose since it kinda makes him look like he wiggles during the fall.  I was also probably also feeling like the stick figure since the network problems made it retardedly slow to work on my PC.

Wednesday, the network was back up and I was more productive so I was happier. I also got to go snowboarding after work, which was pretty fun. I’d say I’m pretty average at boarding, I can carve alright, don’t fall as often, and if I’m well-rested, don’t require stopping every hundred meters down the hill. The only problem is I weigh very little so I don’t get as fast as most of the people I’ve been with go. But I think playing the catch-up game does help me become more comfortable with going fast and hopefully improves my boarding overall.

Portal - Weighted Companion Cube BFF Cross Stitch

For my second video game-themed cross stitch, I decided to go with a more recent popular game - Portal. I used 14-count Aida fabric which fits nicely into a 4×6 inch frame. This time, I decided to try out some self-stick mounting boards which were found in the cross stitch section of the craft store I went to. It worked out pretty well, I was able to peel the fabric off fairly easily to readjust. The frame required minor modifications so that I could fit the mounted stitch in along with the glass still.

Legend of Zelda Valentine Patterns

Here are the patterns I created for the Legend of Zelda Valentines cross stitches.  I used 18-count Aida fabric, which ends up fitting nicely in a 2.5″x3″ frame.  I didn’t do anything special for framing, I just used the cardboard backing that came with the frames and masking tape to tape down the fabric on the back.

Trying a Little Harder

I meant to sign up for a part-time introductory photography class but I wussed out of calling up the school to ask some questions.  I originally sent them an e-mail but received no response.  I did try calling last Friday but no one picked up.  :/  I guess I don’t want it bad enough??  Maybe when the next semester starts (and the weather will also be better for the field trips).  Anyway, someone at work started up a photography club with plans to do monthly field trips.  So I’ll definitely be trying to participate in those as often as I can.

Also, a friend of mine started up an art blog for people he knows to just get together and practice their drawings.  Skills range from beginners to professionals.  Tonight we just did a 1-hour sketch session, the subject matter being “mythical monsters.”  You can see what we came up with following the link in the blogroll called “Kamikaze Art Club.”

Both of these groups are intimidating the hell out of me.  The first camera club meeting had some pretty impressive photos and ideas behind them.  And some of the artists in the art blog are way ahead of me as well.  I worry a lot about my skills and not showing any improvement as time goes on.  Also, I always think my stuff looks unpolished compared to others.  Tough to shake that feeling.

I dun gone and made me some art

Made these Legend of Zelda crossstitches for the boyfriend for a Christmas gift. Even though he knew I was making them, and I showed them to him, lol. I’m hoping to make a couple more in time for Valentine’s and sell them off at work.

These cards were made for my boyfriend’s parents and grandparents.  I didn’t have any idea of what to get them for gifts and therefore ended up with nothing for them.  So I guess the least I could do is make them some cards.
