Great Success!

That there is Chris Shiflett, guitarist for the Foo Fighters.  I managed to get his autograph and give him the cross stitch which he seemed impressed by and thanked me for.  If you look closely at the photo above, you can see the frame in his hand!  I wasn’t able to get a proper photo of him though ’cause two other kids immediately asked for his autograph after me.  It was kinda funny ’cause he asked them where his gift was since I gave him something, lol!

I had waited about 5 hours prior to the show for these guys to show up.  Call me crazy, but there were crazier crazies waiting around too.  Their busses pulled in around 3:30pm and I saw Dave go straight into the building.  Taylor came out to sign stuff but he went the other direction from where I was.  That was when I turned around and saw Chris standing off to the side with a smaller group of fans and I darted over.

The show itself was pure awesome.  I wish I had floor seats but they didn’t seem to be available and/or sold out immediately when we bought the tickets.  It was just constant energy, I already wish I was going to another show tonight.

Haha, definitely brings me back to 2000. Though back then I was only really tracking down Canadian bands, and often they were performing at smaller venues.

There were actually a lot of interesting characters waiting before the show… For the local bands, I was more accustomed to college guys and highschool girls geeking out, but for the Foos, it was all over the place.

Guy 1 - He was there when I arrived, he had a guitar for signing and was apparently 24 years old.

Guy 2 - He and Guy 1 knew each other from hanging out before shows for bands. This guy was a total stoner (he had a small container of joints on him and kept showing it off to people), a financial planner, married with a newborn, and has a collection of expensive guitars signed by various musicians. He had a number of stories which were interesting to listen to, but he was definitely just showing off.

Guy 3 - Shaved head, handle-bar mustache, had to be in his 40s. Used to work at venues I think, he had a guitar with him as well. In the evening I overheard him yelling at some girls that Guy 1 was single and available. The girls would have none of that! He also had a water bottle of Fire Ball which Guy 1 had a number of shots from.

Guy 4 - Some short Chinese dude. He came off as pretty sleazy. Some woman walked by that he thought was hot and he said hi to her from accross the road, much like you’d imagine a construction worker doing so. I noticed his feet were small. kek.

Guy 5 - Teenaged kid, brought his dad with him, hahaha.

Guy 6 - Messy hair, long beard, definitely sleazy. Went on about getting cigarettes from East Hastings (bad area of town, drugs, hookers, etc.) and later I heard him talking about sleeping with women that were bigger than him. I also saw him blow his nose twice by just holding a finger to the other nostril and blowing onto the street. Disgusting. By the evening, security got him to leave for some reason.

Guy 7 - Was just passing by. He is a solo musical act by the name of “Knowun” and he sells electric bikes full-time. He knew of the Foo Fighters but didn’t know they were in town or any of their names. He got Taylor Hawkins (the drummer) to sign his guitar and then kept going on about how the guitar probably has gone up in value and how awesome it was that his guitar was a “Hawk” brand guitar and that he didn’t even know Taylor’s last name was “Hawk” even though it’s “Hawkins.”

The rest of the crowd that showed up later in the day were mostly younger people, probably my age or teenagers. But overall it was an alright crowd. The people who talked to me were friendly enough and never said anything rude to me. I was definitely surprised that it was mostly guys that showed up for autographs haha. Six of them with guitars.
